I am starting my 27th year teaching this year with 24 of those years at Big Hollow. In those 27 years, 25 have been dedicated to working with students with special needs. I spent my first eight years at Big Hollow as an inclusion teacher, the next 12 as a resource teacher. Three years ago I again focused my time in the general education classroom working with students and teachers to help all students have best educational experience we can offer.
My role will be different in each class. There will be times that I will be actively teaching along with the general education teacher. At other times I will be more behind the scenes, helping to differentiate to meet all learners' needs. Either way, I will be actively involved in the learning process for all my students.
Currently in EPIC, I am meeting with students throughout the week to work on interventions for skills that have been identified as a weakness. We also work on organization, work completion, and social interactions. Although we are working hard, we are also trying to make learning fun.
